Taking control of my Life.. Again
I have had type one diabetes for 40 complicated years. I had Rheumatoid arthritis, Osteoarthritis, Gastroparesis, Retinopathy, High blood pressure and High cholesterol.
5 years ago, at the age of 45, I changed to a plant based diet, I joined a gym, taking up swimming Cycling, Zumba and Yoga.
In less than a year, I lost 55 lbs, I lowered my A1C to a 5.5, I got off 3 medications and cut my inflammatory markers in half.
I was so excited, my health was improving and my success story was showcased in the Forks over Knives Magazine.
I told everyone I could, about the importance of maintaining our health; eating better and exercising in order to improve our well-being and longevity.
Fast forward… 2020! I lost my job, I was stuck at home, eating my anxiety, the gym closed, yoga stopped and I was depressed.
Afraid to leave my house, I put on 25 pounds. Feeling like a failure, it made things worse; tomorrow was always another day to start and yet fail again.
Now it's time to take back my life, time to get back my health, I know if I was successful once, I can be successful again.
I want to get back to the happy energetic person that I am and motivate others to do the same.
Falling down doesn't mean staying down. It is an opportunity to reevaluate and change directions. This is my opportunity to get moving, even if indoors, to collaborate with others in the Peloton program; motivating, supporting and encouraging success regardless of the circumstances.
It's never too late to get back up again. The journey of 1000 miles begins with one step.
